The Role

You’ll be responsible for delivering professional on-site installations, maintenance and support services, with a strong focus on structured network cabling, IT infrastructure and telecoms systems. You’ll work across a wide variety of customer sites, from small offices to larger commercial environments, often acting as the face of the business on-site. To succeed in this role, you’ll need to be technically competent, well organised, and confident working independently while keeping clear communication with clients, suppliers and internal teams.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Installation & Field Work
  • Install, terminate and test structured cabling systems (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, fibre where required)
  • Install and configure IT and telecoms equipment, including desktop PCs, laptops, network switches, routers, Wi-Fi access points and VoIP systems
  • Carry out full site installations, including cabinet/rack builds, patch panel terminations and cable management
  • Conduct site surveys and provide recommendations for network and IT infrastructure improvements
  • Ensure all installations meet industry standards and best practice, including health and safety compliance

Technical Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve on-site technical issues relating to IT, networking, connectivity and telecoms systems
  • Assist with deployment and configuration of client infrastructure and telecoms systems
  • Carry out testing and documentation of installed cabling and hardware
  • Support project delivery for installations, upgrades and relocations
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and handover notes following each job

Client Interaction & Service Delivery

  • Act as a professional and approachable point of contact on-site for clients
  • Communicate clearly with clients regarding work being carried out, timelines and any issues encountered
  • Ensure all work is completed within agreed timescales and to a high standard
  • Provide post-installation guidance and basic user support where required
  • Escalate complex issues to the support team when necessary

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all health and safety requirements when working on-site
  • Follow structured cabling standards and compliance requirements
  • Ensure safe use of tools, ladders and access equipment
  • Maintain a clean, organised and professional working environment at client sites

Internal Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Service Desk and Project teams to ensure smooth job delivery
  • Provide feedback from site visits to improve processes and service quality
  • Contribute to internal documentation, including installation procedures and best practices
  • Represent the business professionally at all times

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong technical understanding of cabling, IT and networking infrastructure
  • Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding ability
  • High attention to detail and quality of workmanship
  • Good time management and ability to work independently
  • Clear and confident communication skills
  • Customer-focused approach with a professional manner

Working Conditions

  • Field-based role covering the North West of England, with occasional travel further afield
  • Regular travel to client sites, with early starts or extended days as required
  • Occasional out-of-hours or weekend work for project-based installations or maintenance
  • Physical work involved, including cabling, lifting equipment and working at height
  • Additional duties carried out in the Blackburn office as required

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience in a field engineer and cabling role
  • Experience within an MSP environment
  • Solid technical knowledge across Windows desktop & server, networking (LAN/WAN, switches, routers, firewalls, Wi-Fi) and hosted telephony systems
  • Exposure to cyber security solutions and best practice
  • Full clean UK driving licence
  • Clean DBS required
